Clearwater And Highland Claim Idaho State Titles

Senior Alana Coulter scored 31 points Saturday as Clearwater Valley thumped Valley 61-47 for its first Idaho A-3 girls high school basketball championship.

Earlier, Sandy Mickelson and Billie Ann Randall set a tournament record with six 3-point field goals each to help Grace past Lapwai 76-73 for third place, and senior post Tracy Arrossa scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Kimberly beat Fruitland 61-48 for the consolation title at Capital High School in Boise.

In the championship game at Albertson College, Coulter was the story. She dominated on offense for Clearwater Valley (22-1) and junior Erin Cathey had 10 rebounds against Valley (13-8).

Senior post Jennifer Stone had 21 points and eight rebounds as Highland of Craigmont overwhelmed Shoshone 55-30 in the championship game at Albertson College.

Earlier, senior center Rachel Ligtenberg scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Nampa Christian defeated Cambridge 65-39 for third place. And senior Lila Afoa led a balanced scoring attack as Maranatha dumped North Gem 44-22 for the tournament’s consolation title at Borah High School.

In the title game at Albertson College, Highland (20-3) used Stone inside and senior wing Amy Mathison outside to demolish Shoshone (21-2). Mathison hit 4 of 5 3-point field goals on her way to 16 points.
