Fl Wrestlers Take Two Titles In Region Meet

Colville’s Jeremiah Divis and Brandon LaLonde won individual championships Saturday, but the rest of the Frontier League was shut out at the Region IV-AA Tournament in Selah.

Divis, a 115-pound junior, defeated Selah sophomore Gabe Nunez 8-4 in the final. LaLonde (158), a senior, defeated Jason Havens of Clarkston 4-1 for the title.

Top-ranked Othello stormed the competition, winning five individual titles and scoring 153.5 points. The Huskies advanced seven to Mat Classic VII, Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.

Pullman and West Valley (Spokane) tied for sixth with 67 points, one more than East Valley (Spokane). Pullman advanced five to state; EV and WV sent four apiece.

Besides Havens, Frontier wrestlers who lost title matches and placed second were: Kazuo Yoshiura, Pullman, 141; Troy Campbell, EV, 148; and Cory Thivierge, Clarkston, 178.

Class A/B: At Chelan, Adrian Bojorques (108), Henry Peterson (115) and Mike Lane (129) won titles to lead Riverside to 113.5 points and third place at region.

Top-ranked Cashmere won three titles and the team race, outscoring runner-up Lakeside 137 to 122.5. Lakeside advanced a tourney-best eight to state, including runners-up Chris Padayao (115), Chad Drury (122) and Bart Orth (148).

Deer Park (69 points) tied for fifth, led by champion Alex Schulz at 178.

Other area champs were: Glenn Hume, Chewelah, 141; Terry Haney, Newport, 148; and Severin Walsh, Almira/Coulee-Hartline, 275.
