Kpbx Hosts Music Education Series
The Northwest Conference of the Music Educators National Conference is in town, and KPBX, Spokane Public Radio, is helping celebrate the occasion.
The station will present a special series on music education at noon Wednesday through Friday.
Martin Zyzkowski will join host Verne Windham on Wednesday to discuss “The Need for Multicultural Experiences in the Classroom: How Can They Be Achieved?” Zyzkowski is a percussion professor at Eastern Washington University and tympanist for the Spokane Symphony.
On Thursday, Larry D. Williams will join Windham and co-host Travis Rivers to talk about “Music: Its Role in Education.” Williams teaches music in Great Falls and is involved with the Montana Arts Council.
Will Schmid and Judy Stoehr will be guests for a call-in program about music and arts education on Friday. Schmid is president of the music educators.
Creating what they teach
An exhibition of recent work by full- and part-time studio art faculty at Gonzaga University will be displayed from Friday through March 9.
An artists’ opening reception will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Ad Gallery in GU’s Administration Building. Exhibits include paintings, ceramics, prints, sculptures and mixed-media works by Terry Gieber, Robert Gilmore, Jeanette Kirishian, Mardis Nenno, Leon Rattler and Robert Schindler.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
To be (an actor) or not to be
Roger Welch will conduct adult theater classes for The Lake City Playhouse this month and next.
The first class, “Audition Techniques,” will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 20, 22, 24, 27 and March 1 and 3. The second class, “Acting Fundamentals/Improvisation” will be from 7:30-9 p.m. on the same dates.
Welch has been an actor, director and choreographer for many area productions and is now artistic director for the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre.

Paint a poster
Inland Northwest artists are invited to compete in the 1995 Moscow Renaissance Fair poster design contest. Feb. 27 is the deadline for submission.
The winning poster will be reproduced and distributed in the Northwest as the official 22nd annual Moscow Renaissance Fair Poster. And the winner gets $200.
