Skier Falls, Dies Of Head Injuries

From Staff And Wire Reports

An Aberdeen, Wash., woman skiing at White Pass ski resort with her fiance died from head injuries after she fell and slid down a steep, icy slope.

The woman, who was celebrating her 23rd birthday, was skiing an expert run Friday when she fell and slid 60 to 70 yards, the Lewis County sheriff’s office said in a press release.

As she slid, her head repeatedly struck against icy moguls on the run at the ski area southeast of Mount Rainier, the sheriff’s office said.

Her fiance and another friend tried to revive her until the Ski Patrol arrived and took her down to the lodge. A doctor from the University of Washington who was skiing was unable to revive the woman, the sheriff’s office said.

Her identity was not released pending notification of her family. The run, known as Lower Roller Coaster, is rated a black diamond, which means it is one of the most difficult on the mountain.
