This Camera May Be A Joke
If you’re having trouble getting your family to smile at the camera, Polaroid thinks it can help.
Next month, Polaroid Corp. will start selling a new talking camera with three pre-recorded jokes and a chip that will record and play back your own one-liners.
The Talking OneStep tells a joke when you depress the shutter halfway. When you get your reaction, you snap the picture.
The new camera is expected to retail for $39.99, about $10 more than the company’s regular OneStep instant camera. Market research showed consumers are willing to pay an extra $10 for the talking feature, said Andrew York, Polaroid’s marketing manager for new products.
At least one financial analyst was skeptical.
The talking camera is “certainly not talking to investors,” said Alex Henderson, of Prudential Securities Research in New York.
