Bobsledder Injured

Compiled From Wire Services

One year after his spirit was shattered at the Winter Olympics by a stunning rules violation, U.S. bobsled driver Brian Shimer is hurting physically.

Shimer dropped a 675-pound bobsled on his right foot, breaking his big toe and forcing him out of the biggest race of the season, the four-man World Championships at Winterberg, Germany.

It was a disappointing end to what had been a promising season. Shimer, who won the overall World Cup points title in the four-man in 1992-93, finished fourth overall this year.
