Sampras Won’t Play

Top-ranked Pete Sampras will not play in the United States’ Davis Cup quarterfinal match in Italy next month because of a scheduling conflict.

The New York Times reported that Sampras will not compete because the Davis Cup was too close to the Lipton Championships in Florida, which end March 26. He is the defending champion.
