Sanctions Sought Against Soda Maker
The NAACP’s national board of directors has tentatively called for economic sanctions against Dr Pepper/Seven-Up Cos. unless the company agrees to hire AfricanAmerican executives.
Two top NAACP officials still must sign off on the sanctions, which would give the group’s Dallas-based southwest region stronger footing in its campaign against Dr Pepper. Regional director Shannon Reeves said last month that African-Americans should be 22 percent of Dr Pepper executives because they buy 22 percent of Dr Pepper products.
Dr Pepper officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Previously, they have confirmed that the company has no AfricanAmerican executives or directors but have not commented on the consumption statistics.
