Oregon Stuns No. 15 Asu

Associated Press

Pac-10

When the 3-pointers wouldn’t drop, Oregon turned to another of its strengths - rebounding - to beat nemesis Arizona State.

“I really wasn’t thinking at the time. I just tried to get it up as quick as I could and tapped it in,” Zack Sellers said Thursday night after putting back an airball by teammate Kenya Wilkins for the buzzer-beating basket that defeated the No. 15 Sun Devils 73-72 in Tempe, Ariz.

Had Wilkins’ 16-footer from the baseline hit metal, there wouldn’t have been time for another shot.

It was just one facet of a dramatic comeback by the Ducks (8-5 Pac-10, 16-6), who trailed by 14 points three times in the second half - the last at 63-49 with 10:19 to go.

Arizona State’s Marcell Capers scored with 22 seconds remaining. The Ducks got the ball out of bounds twice, the second time when Orlando Williams dribbled off his foot. He and Isaac Burton dived for it, resulting in a jump ball with 5.9 seconds left and an inbounds pass to Wilkins.

Mario Bennett had 12 of his 19 points in the second half, and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Sun Devils (9-5, 19-7).

Oregon hadn’t won in Tempe since February 1988 and had dropped 11 of its 13 previous games with the Sun Devils.
