It Hasn’t Hit Its Prime For A Long, Long Time
Loose talk
Former “Saturday Night Live” player Dennis Miller, on air travel: “I think that’s the worst thing about dying in a plane wreck: You have to check into eternity with all the same (jerks) you couldn’t stomach in the lobby at O’Hare.”
Adam Sandler isn’t the only rat who’s been thinking about deserting a sinking “Saturday Night Live.”
Janeane Garofalo, presently on leave for a movie project, says she’ll definitely return to HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show” but isn’t so sure about SNL.
“We’d have to have a heart-to-heart about my material,” Garofalo told TV Guide.
Al Franken and Chris Farley, who also have films in the works, are among the other regulars rumored to be roaming.
“Some people are taking the bad press hard,” Franken said.
Head honcho Lorne Michaels apparently is not among them. “Comics always whine after their sketches get cut,” his spokesman said. “We’ve slumped before and come back.”
His birthday parties are always the quiet ones
George Harrison turns 52 today.
Guess his references came up a little short
Attention, creditors: Gary Cole, who plays dad Mike Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie,” did not appear in television’s “Diff’rent Strokes.” Says Cole: “I once applied for an American Express card and put NBC as my reference and they sent me a letter back saying I was much too young, Mr. Coleman, to apply for a credit card.”
It did seem she was holding something back
It isn’t easy being Jan Brady, according to co-star Jennifer Elise Cox: “She just has this really breathy voice, and she has this look about her … It’s almost like, you know, I hate to say constipated, but it’s almost like, you know, very intense expressions!”
Jeremy wouldn’t be caught dead doing it
Pearl Jam has turned its target from Ticketmaster to high school biology classes, setting up a toll-free number where students can get petitions asking school principals to “cut out dissection.” The first 50 fans returning filled-in forms will receive merchandise autographed by singer Eddie Vedder.
Some stones roll in more than one direction
According to the British newspaper The Mail, the “other woman” involved in the breakup of Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner and his wife of 26 years, Jane, is actually another man - Matt Nye, a 28-yearold Calvin Klein model.
She’s always picking them up on the rebound
The Globe tabloid reports that Madonna’s latest romantic interest is colorful basketball star Dennis Rodman. She’s supposedly been pressing him with 10 to 15 phone calls a day along with faxed love notes, one of which read: “Six kids is fine, but that means we have to start now, like in about three weeks, OK? What city will you be in?”
