Legislative Action

Here is a look at action Friday in the Washington Legislature:

Governor:

Threatened to veto a welfare reform plan Republicans are pressing as part of their “Contract With Washington.”

Senate:

No major action.

The Labor and Commerce Committee approved and sent to the full Senate SB5589, which would increase the minimum wage from $4.90 an hour to $5.25.

The Government and Operations Committee approved and sent to the Senate Ways and Means Committee SB5199, to eliminate 37 state boards and commissions.

House:

The Government Operations Committee approved and sent to the House Appropriations Committee HB1121, which would require the state auditor to undertake performance audits of all state agencies.

The Finance Committee approved and sent to the full House HB1155, which would allow sellers to retain three-tenths of 1 percent of sales taxes collected to cover administrative costs.
