The Toronto Raptors scored a multimillion dollar coup with a sponsorship deal that will see Air Canada’s name splashed across the NBA expansion team’s new arena.
The Raptors’ permanent home, a renovated postal station near the waterfront, will be called Air Canada Centre.
The Raptors plan to play their first two seasons, starting this fall, at SkyDome and move into their new quarters in 1997.
French soccer star Eric Cantona of Manchester escaped the lifetime ban he had feared, but he was suspended until October and fined $15,000 by the English Football Association for going into the stands and making a karate-style kick on a taunting fan during a Jan. 25 game at Crystal Palace.
