Theft Charges For Teen Who Rang Up Sex Calls

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 17-year-old boy was charged Friday with grand theft for allegedly making over 100 calls to a telephone sex line and then charging them to other people.

The youth charged $15,000 worth of 900 phone line calls to about 50 Hayden-area residents, GTE officials believe.

The teen’s foster mother caught him making one of those calls and reported him to authorities.

Kootenai County deputy prosecutor Barry Black said the youth is currently being held in the juvenile detention center on an unrelated matter.

Black said the citizens originally billed for the phone calls will not have to pay those bills. Several phone and billing companies will instead have to absorb the costs.
