Three Sandwich Shops To Open In The Valley

Submarine sandwich shops are starting to surface all over the Valley.

Max’s Italian Subs and Espresso is scheduled to open at Argonne Village Wednesday, said co-owner Tony Frost.

Bruchi’s Cheesesteak and Subs, which has one restaurant at E11101 Sprague, will open two franchise restaurants at Mullan and Mission and on Sullivan Road this spring.

Frost is remodeling a former bank building at E9223 Montgomery. He didn’t say exactly how much was invested in the project, but, “I came in here with a credit card,” he said, “and it looks good.”

The restaurant will feature Italianstyle submarine sandwiches from a New Jersey-inspired menu, Frost said. Max’s Italian Subs includes an espresso bar.

Frost and Cathy Paupst, his business partner, are leasing 1,800 square feet at the strip mall near Argonne Road and Interstate 90.

Frost, who had formerly managed a submarine sandwich shop, said that plans include combining the restaurant with a small Italian grocery store.

Good Samaritan renovation

Spokane Valley Good Samaritan Center will have a new dementia care unit and an assisted living wing by this summer.

Plans for the $2 million renovation include installing a new heating ventilation and air conditioning system, said Tamara Gordon, the hospital’s director of resource development.

“We’ll be providing specialized care for people who have Alzheimer’s (disease) or related dementia,” Gordon said. “It’s not a psychiatric care unit, the care there is going to be designed specifically for the needs of those people.”

Thirty nursing beds will be converted into a 15-unit assisted living wing, she said.

“That will provide that interim level of care,” Gordon said, “when someone doesn’t need 24-hour nursing care, but they’re not safe independently.”

The interior will also get new paint, wallpaper and some furniture, she said.

“It’s been a good 20 years” since the last major renovation, Gordon said.

The center hopes to replace 30 sets of resident furniture, she said. “It’s 37 years old; it needs to be replaced.”

$1 million remodel at Red Lion

Red Lion Inn will make about $1 million in renovations this spring.

The hotel, on Sullivan Road near Interstate 90, will upgrade rooms by adding two hot tub suites and two parlor suites, said Anne Thompson, general manager.

Sixty guest rooms will be remodeled into upscale business class rooms, she said.

A restaurant in the hotel will be completely renovated, Thompson said. She said that the remodeling projects are still in the planning stages.
