Gar-Pal, Tekoa-Oakesdale Earn Spots In State B Fields

The remaining two berths to state were decided in the District 9-B high school basketball championship games at Washington State University on Saturday.
For the boys, sixth-ranked Garfield-Palouse (21-3) knocked off Whitman County rival LaCrosseWashtucna 57-40 to join the Blue Mountain League’s Dayton (24-1) in the state tournament at the Spokane Coliseum this week.
Garfield-Palouse finished seventh at state last year.
In girls action, the TekoaOakesdale Nighthawks (18-9), who finished third in the Whitman County League, will join St. John-Endicott (22-2) in the state tournament at Spokane Falls Community College after defeating Pomeroy (17-6) 51-41.
The Nighthawks have won two state titles in the last eight years.

Rob Tiegs led the Vikings with 19 points and was 9 of 12 from the freethrow line as the Vikings were 16 of 26 from the line. The Tigercats were only 8 of 19.
The Vikings jumped to a 32-21 lead at the half after outscoring the Tigercats 13-4 in the second quarter.
Steve Cofield added 15 points for the Vikings and was 5 of 8 from the free-throw line.
Corey Goll led the Tigercats with 16 points, including two 3-pointers.

Molly French led the Nighthawks with 13 points in their win over the Pirates.
Teammate Brandi Peringer added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
The Nighthawks led throughout as they outscored the Pirates in every quarter.
The Pirates’ Mindy John and Brook Warren scored 11 points apiece.
