Idaho Poll

A poll on hunting attitudes in Idaho found that 55 percent of the newcomers moving into the state planned to hunt in 1994, compared with 62 percent of Idaho residents who have lived there for at least several years.

Idaho Fish and Game Department officials said the results debunked the myth that people moving to the state were going to trounce all over Idaho’s traditional values.

“I think hunting and fishing are part of what motivates newcomers to move here,” said Bill Goodnight, department education chief in Boise.

The poll showed that 91 percent of the newcomers viewed hunting wild animals as an acceptable way to put meat in the freezer.
