Germans Win Hopman Cup

Boris Becker and Anke Huber battled to three-set singles victories over opponents from Ukraine and Germany won the Hopman Cup tennis tournament in Perth, Australia.

Becker defeated Andrei Medvedev 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 after Huber had given Germany a 1-0 lead with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Natalia Medvedeva, Andrei’s sister.

Defending champion Stefan Edberg and Magnus Larsson won semifinal matches in the Qatar Open at Doha, Qatar, setting up an all-Swedish final today.

Jim Courier reached the final of the Australian Hardcourt tournament in Adelaide, Australia, with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mark Woodforde.
