Warning Signs
Here are some common warning signs of potential suicides and places to get help:
Talk of suicide. “Even an idle threat should never be ignored,” said Lloyd Potter of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Depression. Clinical depression can be difficult for lay people to diagnose, but some clues include inability to sleep, loss of appetite and a sense of hopelessness.
Alcohol or drug abuse. Alcoholics are 50 times more likely to commit suicide than are nonalcoholics.
Fortunately, the number of resources for people who are in crisis have increased in North Idaho.
