Shadle Dominates Titans
GSL girls basketball
Shadle Park turned a dream matchup into a dud. The Highlanders defense forced numerous turnovers and they dominated the boards for a surprisingly easy 57-43 victory over University at Shadle Park Tuesday night.
Both teams were undefeated in league play and had eight wins overall. It marked the first of five straight outings matching up the top four teams in Greater Spokane League girls basketball.
Eighth-ranked Shadle Park (7-0, 9-2) took control early with an 18-10 lead and stayed up by that margin most of the first half. The Titans (5-1, 8-2) never recovered. The Highlanders shot 47 percent (24-51), making many layups created by their defense, while University was just 16 of 54 from the field.
The lead got to 16 in the third quarter. Shadle’s one-two punch of Kelly Bartleson (14 points) and Shawna Rainer (13) easily offset the 16 points from U-Hi’s Tracy Ford.
On Friday, Mead (6-0, 10-0) is at U-Hi. Next Tuesday, Shadle plays Mead at Spokane Falls while U-Hi is at Ferris (4-2, 8-2). Then Ferris plays Shadle Park and Mead back-to-back.
