‘Hometown Hero’ Award Received By Area Residents
Dinah Carlson, Colville, Wash.; Dale Brown, Kellogg; and Bob Gronholz, Colfax, Wash., have been recognized by the Inland Northwest Partnership for their ongoing efforts to help preserve and enhance the quality of life and economic vitality in their communities.
The Inland Northwest Partnership is an economic development group comprised of regional business leaders. The “HomeTown Hero” award acknowledges the instrumental role these leaders played in various projects:
Carlson was recognized for her leadership in helping create and complete Heritage Court, the meeting place of the Colville community.
Brown was recognized for his leadership in the revitalization of Kellogg’s downtown area through a Local Improvement District project.
Gronholz was recognized for his role in improving the increasing housing shortage in the city of Colfax and Whitman County.
The Washington State University Jazz Big Band, directed by WSU professor Gregory Yasinitsky, recently performed at the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference in Anaheim, Calif. The band performed compositions and arrangements by WSU faculty members. The conference was the largest of its kind with more than 5,000 educators in attendance.
The following students from Ricks College, Rexburg, Idaho, have been named to the 1994 fall semester honor roll. They had to earn at least a 3.5 GPA.

Amanda Stephenson, Veradale > Mike Andreason, manager of the McDonald’s restaurant on East Sprague, was awarded a Bachelor of Hamburgerology degree from McDonald’s Hamburger University, Oak Brook, Ill., for graduating from the university’s advanced operations course. All managers, frachisees, midmanagement and company executives are required to complete this course.
Sherry Arling, Coeur d’Alene, has had original poetry published in “River of Dreams,” compiled by The National Library of Poetry. Her poem is entitled, “The Application.”
