Pope And Talbot Reopens Sawmill
Pope and Talbot Inc. is resuming operations at its Port Gamble sawmill this week, ending a shutdown that began Dec. 9.
“Market conditions are such that it is more advantageous to run it than to keep it closed,” mill manager Jerry Clark said.
The mill will operate on a weekto-week basis, depending on market conditions. Pope and Talbot lost money in the final three months of 1994, although the wood products division was profitable. Corporate officials have said the Port Gamble mill would operate only as long as it made a profit.
