Arnold Palmer, the network’s cofounder and chairman, threw a switch officially launching the The Golf Channel, an Orlando-based 24-hour network devoted exclusively to golf programming.

The Golf Channel, which being made available through local cable and satellite systems, will have complete coverage of more than 70 pro tournaments a year not currently available through the major commercial networks.

Tommy Evans, who won last week in Kennewick by finishing with games of 300 and 278, averaged a whopping 249 for eight games to jump from third to first in the $65,000 Northwest PBA Senior Classic at Valley Lanes in Beaverton, Ore.
