Labor Secretary Robert Reich and mediator W.J. Usery met with baseball owners and urged them to return to the bargaining table with players and settle the strike.

But no one leaving the 4-hour meeting would say whether they expect negotiations to resume soon. Owners had said they would get talks underway again only if Usery asked them to - ostensibly the purpose of the meeting.
