Waiting In The Wings
While Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen waits for Mike Shanahan to become available, candidates are lining up in hopes of becoming the San Francisco 49ers’ next offensive coordinator.
If Shanahan leaves the 49ers, former Broncos offensive coordinator Jim Fassel might replace him.
Shanahan remains Bowlen’s first choice to become the Broncos’ coach, replacing Wade Phillips. But Bowlen can’t discuss the job with Shanahan until the 49ers finish their season, Jan. 29 in the Super Bowl.
Fassel, who has interviewed for the Denver job and who is believed to be Bowlen’s No. 2 choice behind Shanahan, acknowledged he has talked to the 49ers and Indianapolis Colts.
