With the end of the school season approaching, AAU-sanctioned tournaments aren’t far off.
The Spokesman-Review will attempt to keep you informed of the scheduling of events through the spring that lead to regional and national tournaments.
Here’s the first batch:

Banquet
C. Cliff McCrath, longtime soccer coach at Seattle Pacific and a noted motivational speaker, has been added to the lineup for the 47th Inland Empire Sports Awards Banquet on Feb. 1 at the Spokane Convention Center.
McCrath, considered a wit from the dais, is a ninetime conference coach of the year, No. 2 nationally in career victories with 441 and a member of the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame. His teams have played in 10 NCAA title games.
Former football star-turned-broadcaster Ahmad Rashad also is a featured speaker, and ex-NHL player Dennis Hull returns as master of ceremonies.

Baseball
Anyone interested in coaching in the Rathdrum Little League should attend a meeting at St. Stanislaus Hall on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Track and field
A winter camp will be held at Whitworth College the first two weekends in February.
Whitworth coach Sam Wiseman said field events, sprints and hurdles will be covered Feb. 4-5 and 10-11.
Sessions and event choices: Feb. 4 (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) and Feb. 5 (3-6 p.m.), javelin, discus, high jump, triple jump, sprints. Feb. 10 (6-9 p.m.) and Feb. 11 (9 a.m.3:30 p.m.), shot put, pole vault, long jump, hurdles, sprints.

Volleyball
The Washington State women’s team will hold its annual banquet on Monday at the Compton Union Building on campus. The dinner honoring the 16-13 Cougars, who appeared in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season, begins at 6:30 p.m.

Wrestling
Brett Lucas of Spokane (North Central High School), a senior at Central Washington, won the 150-pound championship at the Clackamas College Invitational last weekend. Lucas, who won the title match 3-1, had a 4-0 record in the tournament and is 21-9 for the season.
