Gm Shifting Back Into High Gear After Strike

Associated Press

General Motors Corp. managers scrambled Saturday to resume production at plants shut down by parts shortages caused by a three-day strike at a Flint factory.

About 300 employees returned to work Saturday afternoon at the Flint complex to ship parts left on loading docks when the strike began, and to prepare for production to resume, GM spokesman Dan Dolan said.

He said normal production is expected Monday at all plants affected by the walkout, which idled more than 30,000 workers.

After a similar strike last fall, it took GM up to three days to replenish parts supplies at some closed plants.

Members of United Auto Workers Local 651 vote Sunday on an agreement that would end the walkout and allow about 6,800 workers to return to AC Delco Flint East. The strike, which began Wednesday, also idled workers at eight other plants that rely on parts made at the Flint factory.
