Gu Recognizes Efforts By Professor, Eighth-Grader
Kathie Yerion, associate professor of mathematics and computer science at Gonzaga University, and Julianna Cook, an eighth-grader and student body president at Glover Middle School, were recently recognized by Gonzaga University’s Women’s Sports Connection for their efforts in athletics and academics.
Yerion is an active racquetball player and cross-country skier who has supported women’s volleyball and basketball at GU for many years.
Cook is a varsity athlete with a 4. grade-point-average, and is active in her church youth group and the Rotary Club.
The women were honored at the Jan. 14 GU women’s basketball game vs. the University of San Francisco.
Robin MacDonald, a 1992 graduate of University High School and a University of Washington junior majoring in speech and hearing sciences, has been installed as vice-president of the UW’s Chapter of Alpha Phi International Fraternity.
Other Inland Northwest UW students elected as officers of that fraternity are:
Lori Guillaume, a 1993 graduate of Central Valley High School, now a sophomore majoring in business, was installed as social chair.
Chris Goris, a 1993 graduate of Mead High School, a sophomore majoring in engineering, was installed as treasurer.
The following Inland Northwest military persons were decorated with the Army Commendation Medal:
Spec. Randall Griffiths, son of Colleen Daley, Spokane, and Brian Griffiths, Billings, Mont., is a wheeled vehicle driver at Conn Barracks, Schweinfurt, Germany. He is a 1987 graduate of North Central High Schoo.
Pvt. Darrell Kempton, son of Dave and Donna Kempton, Coeur d’Alene, is a cannon crewman at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii. He is a 1993 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.
