Vandals Top Jacks On Road
Finally, Idaho enjoyed one for the road.
Nate Gardner scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Vandals, who hadn’t won in six road games this season, held off Northern Arizona 68-66 Saturday night in a Big Sky Conference game.
Northern Arizona rallied from an 11-point deficit, but John Rondeno missed a short shot at the buzzer.
Mark Leslie, who hit a 3-pointer to give Idaho its largest lead, added 15 points for the Vandals (2-3 Big Sky, 8-9 overall), who have beaten the Lumberjacks (3-3, 6-11) 13 straight times.
Shawn Dirden had 14 points and six assists for Idaho.
Brad Snyder scored 18 points to lead Northern Arizona.
The game was tied at 47 when Idaho pulled away, eventually leading 65-54 with 3:01 left.
Freshman Jermone Riley added 13 points and Rondeno had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Northern Arizona led 33-31 at halftime.
Idaho played without star forward Harry Harrison, who has been ill. Harrison averages double figures in scoring and rebounding, and managed five points and eight rebounds in limited playing time against Weber State on Thursday.
The Vandals split on the road trip that concluded Saturday, having lost to Weber State 73-56.
They return to the Kibbie Dome for two home games, Feb. 3 against Montana and Feb. 4 against Montana State.
