Napier Big Sky Player Of Week
Eastern Washington’s Lori Napier is the Big Sky Conference women’s basketball player of the week.
Napier, a senior from Medical Lake, had 42 points on 60-percent shooting from the field and 19 rebounds to lead the Eagles to victories over Northern Arizona (81-68) and Weber State (82-67) to improve their Big Sky record to 3-2.
The 6-foot center, who added five assists, three steals and two blocked shots, has scored in double figures in the last 13 games. She is the Eagles’ leader at 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Whits drop a notch
Whitworth’s 89-85 Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges loss at Pacific Lutheran on Friday cost the Pirates a spot in the NAIA Division II men’s basketball poll.
The 14-7 Pirates are ranked eighth this week after climbing to No. 7 last week. They’re the second of five Northwest schools in the top 25. Northwest Nazarene is sixth.
Marriott honored
Stacia Marriott, Seattle University’s sophomore guard from Davenport, was picked as the Pacific Northwest Athletic Athletic Conference women’s player of the week.
In the polls …
Washington State picked up four points to rank 51st out of 56 teams receiving votes in The Associated Press NCAA Division I men’s poll.
The University of Washington climbed two places to 13th in this week’s NCAA Division I women’s poll.
They’re the second-ranked Pacific-10 Conference team. Stanford is third after being No. 4 last week.
