The Slice This Ad Campaign Needs Some Work

The readers have spoken. And those “Reach out and touch everyone, everywhere” billboards give people the creeps.

The search for maleness: Brandon Janosky, 14, was headed off to camp. He had to take his own sheets. But everything he could find at home had flowery patterns. So he had one question. “Mom, why do we have wuss bed stuff?”

Sticks and stones: Seattle Weekly couldn’t understand Outside magazine’s recent raves for Spokane. “…having met too many refugees from The Can who came to Seattle and stayed.”

Apparently the Weekly hasn’t noticed that, here in the ‘90s, that refugee thing works both ways.

Big Red: If you compare their times in the Belmont Stakes, Secretariat would have whipped this year’s winner, Thunder Gulch, by 40 lengths. - The (Louisville) CourierJournal

Kids and flying: Spokane’s Justin Hart, 3, was in a plane headed to Billings this spring. And once it got up above the clouds, he got a worried look on his face. He turned to his seatmate. “Mommy, are we going to run over God?”

Turn it off: Phalice Ayers wanted to do something when she found herself behind drivers who hadn’t turned off their blinkers. So she made a sign that says “SIGNAL ON,” which she holds up when the opportunity arises. She’s nice about it and people seem to appreciate it.

If only she had a few other signs.

“HOSTILITY ON.”

“RECKLESSNESS ON.”

“BRAIN OFF.”

Warm-up questions: Who is the loudest person in your workplace? What Spokane area church has the worst problem with perfume/cologne overkill? Is there a math teacher in America who wouldn’t recommend “Apollo 13” to students? What sound gets your pet’s attention?

Today’s Slice question: What did you forget to do before leaving on vacation?
