California Man Says He Killed Two

A California man has confessed to killing two men whose bodies were discovered near Ritzville in mid-June, authorities said Friday.

The Adams County Prosecutor’s Office filed a request for an arrest warrant in Adams County Superior Court late Friday afternoon, charging Shawn Ryan of Orangevale, Calif., with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder.

Sheriff Mike Kline called the killings “a drug-related matter.”

Ryan, 18, provided Adams County detective Brian Taylor with information that only investigators or someone involved with the shooting deaths of Aubrey Cameron, 34, of Pasco, and Shawn Chamberlain, 24, of Richland, would have known, Kline said.

”(Ryan) had to be there,” Kline said. “He had to be there. He was providing some good factual information that we could corroborate through our investigation.”

Ryan is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail on unrelated charges. Taylor was in Sacramento to interview Ryan on Thursday.

Kline said Ryan has a July 17 court date in Sacramento and believed that most of the extradition process would be taken care of at that time.

A motorist found Cameron’s body in plain sight along a county road about two miles east of Ritzville on June 16. While investigating Cameron’s murder, deputies discovered Chamberlain’s body three days later, about three-quarters of a mile away.

Autopsies determined both men died of single gunshot wounds to the head.

A blood-stained car Cameron rented was found on June 18, along a rural road south of Ellensburg, about 100 miles west of Ritzville.

Ryan has a record of minor arrests and juvenile arrests, according to Kline, who said he doesn’t expect any further arrests in the case.
