Compiled From Wire Services

Federation Cup captain Billie Jean King chose four players, including newcomer Chanda Rubin, to the U.S. tennis team that will play France July 22-23 at Wilmington, N.C.

Also picked were Fed Cup veterans Lindsay Davenport, Gigi Fernandez and Mary Joe Fernandez, the core of the team that was runner-up to Spain in the 1994 Fed Cup.

Charismatic French tennis star Yannick Noah was beaten in the first round of the $560,000 Swiss Open tennis tournament - his first appearance in ATP competition in four years.

He was defeated by compatriot Cedric Pioline 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), despite a set point in the tie-breaker.

Meanwhile, three-time Swiss Open champion and third-seeded Sergei Bruguera of Spain struggled to beat American Francisco Montana 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
