Teens between the ages of 12-15, restless and bored with staying home all summer, can now take solace in the Teen Junction Summer Day Camp.

Sponsored by the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, this camp meets at the Northeast Youth Center, 4001 N. Cook St., Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from now through Aug. 18.

Each week, the program provides recreation, cultural opportunities, community service and special guest speakers. The first week is Green Week (environmental activities), the second is Bounce It Around Week (ball games that include prizes and food), the third is Camping Week (three days of fun-filled camping), the fourth is Sports Week (including a Spokane Indians game, golf, ice skating, rollerskating, volleyball, rollerblading and dance) and the last week is Kidsweek (including miniature golf, video games, bowling, Splashdown and a trip to Bear Lake).

Each week costs $30 per teen, or less depending on how many weeks you’re involved. The cost for the week of July 31 to Aug. 4 (the threeday camping trip) is only $18. For questions on how to apply, call 625-6200.

Challenge yourself: The Spokane Art School is now open for two-week, half-day art classes during July and August for youth ages 4 to teens. Classes are designed to combine seriousness with fun. For teens, there are classes in jewelry making, photography, ceramics, painting and sculpture. For artists with tight schedules, the Spokane Art School is also offering Friday and weekend workshops.

To register or to get more information on these or other youthoriented summer classes, call the Spokane Art School at 328-0900.
