James O’Reilly Potlatch, Idaho

Service for James Patrick O’Reilly, 79, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Potlatch. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. O’Reilly, who died Monday, was born on a farm near Potlatch.

He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, Potlatch Lumber Co. and local farmers.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He returned to Potlatch following the war and worked for Potlatch Forest Inc., now known as Potlatch Corp. He retired in 1980 after 33 years.

Mr. O’Reilly was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Potlatch Post of the American Legion and the Potlatch Boosters.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruth O’Reilly; one daughter, Connie O’Reilly of Portland; one sister, Helen Straight of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund.

Irvin Cain Spokane

Graveside service for Irvin H. Cain, 91, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cain, who died Saturday, was born in Mercury, Texas.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 60 years and worked for the city of Spokane as a mechanic.

His wife, Pearle Cain, died in 1986.

He is survived by one son, Irvin “Buddy” Cain of Spokane; and one sister, Thelma Fagg of Wenatchee.

Frank Hayden Arden, Wash.

Service for Frank D. Hayden, 83, is set for 11 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash.

Mr. Hayden, who died Saturday, was born in Hagerman, Idaho.

He had lived in Spokane for 48 years and was a welder in the construction industry.

He also worked for Modern Electric Water Co. for 10 years and for Bunker Hill Mining Co., retiring in 1978. He later moved to Valley, Wash., and then to Arden.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Lowder of Valley, Wash.; and Susan’s mother, Frances Hayden of Spokane.

Ronald Payne Spokane

Memorial service for Ronald H. Payne, 64, is set for 3 p.m. today at First Assembly of God. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Payne, who died Saturday, was born in Omak, Wash. He graduated from Omak High School in 1949 and moved to Spokane in 1959.

He was a finish carpenter and formerly operated Ron Payne Construction, doing residential construction.

Mr. Payne is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Ann Payne; three sons, John and Gregory Payne, both of Spokane, and Scott Payne of Helena; one daughter, Roni Hunter of St. Louis; three sisters, Orvilla Graves of Okanogan, Wash., Nita McCallum of Tonasket, Wash., and Arlene Martin of Riverside; one brother, Arthur Payne of Kirkland, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Woodard Spokane

No service will be held for Gertrude J. Woodard, 85, at her request.

Mrs. Woodard, a 62-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She was born in South Bend, Ind., and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Larry and Wallace Woodard, and one daughter, Jodine Watson, all of Spokane; one sister, Anna Mae Price of Indiana; and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Alice Coil Spokane

Service for Alice C. Coil, 92, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Coil, who was born in Silver Lake, Wis., died Saturday.

She was a meat wrapper for Carstens-HyGrade Packing Co. in Spokane, and had also worked for The Crescent and Eugene’s Flowers.

Mrs. Coil was preceded in death by her two husbands, John Nelson and Erman Coil.

She is survived by four stepsons, Frank Coil of Bozeman, Mont., and Gene, Burton and Jack Coil, all of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Ruth Louderback of Walla Walla, Bertha “Debbie” Dykes of Sequin, Texas, and Sue Uddman of Spokane; 28 grandchildren, and numerous greatgrandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Care Center.

Patrick Crary Deer Park

Service for Patrick C. Crary, 24, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Deer Park Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will follow at Wild Rose Cemetery in Deer Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crary died July 5 from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Denver, Colo., and graduated from high school in Castle Rock, Colo., in 1988. He served in the Marines during the Gulf War.

He had lived in Deer Park for the last three years.

He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Norma Crary of Deer Park; five brothers, Gregory Crary of Montana, Kristopher Crary of Deer Park, Mark Crary of Thorton, Colo., Bryan Crary of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Kevin Crary of Englewood, Colo.; two sisters, Paule and Kellee Crary, both of Deer Park; his grandmother, Kathleen White of Cando, N.D.; and his great-grandmother, Jessie Crary of Cando, N.D.

John Tonn Ford, Wash.

Funeral Mass for John Tonn, 34, is set for 10 a.m. today at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Ford. Burial will be at Hubert Cemetery in Ford. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tonn died Sunday in a single car accident near Wellpinit, Wash.

He was born in Spokane and was a member of the Spokane Tribe of Indians. He was a plumber.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Julie Tonn; one son, Joseph Tonn, at home; his mother, Ida Tonn of Ford; his father, Joseph Tonn of Spokane; three brothers, Gene Bright of Tum Tum, Wash., and William and Gregory Bright, both of Spokane; four sisters, Carolyn Lash, and Robin and Marcelline Tonn, all of Ford, and Cynthia Weatherman of Spokane.

Catherine Werner Spokane

Funeral Mass for Catherine M. Werner, 83, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Private burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Werner, who died Monday, was born in Wishek, N.D.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 53 years and was a nurse’s aide at Sacred Heart Hospital.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Third Order of St. Francis.

She is survived by two sons, Simon and Alvin Werner, both of Spokane; two daughters, Sister Mary Werner of St. Paul, Ore., and Margaret Stobie of Beaverton, Ore.; one sister, Mary Meier of Wishek; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Henry Grinalds Liberty Lake

Service for Henry F. “Hank” Grinalds, 67, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mr. Grinalds, founder of Acme Glass, died Friday at home from cancer.

He was born in Norfolk, Va., and had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II

Mr. Grinalds worked for W.P. Fuller Glass Co. for 13 years before forming Acme Glass in 1959. He also built up his glass business in Missoula and Coeur d’Alene.

He was a member of the Spokane Valley Rotary Club, the Northside Eagles Club and the Valley Elks Club.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Thelma Grinalds in 1992.

He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Trusant, Nancy Mortlock and Karen Altmeyer; one son, Randall Grinalds; three sisters, Audrey Hale and Sara Erlandson, both of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary Gleason of Richmond, Va.; five granddaughters and five grandsons.

Dennis Clarke Spokane

Memorial Mass for Dennis F. Clarke, 49, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clarke, who was born in England, died Sunday.

He came to Spokane with his family and graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School and Gonzaga University.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood as an electrical engineer for 18 years.

He was a 45-year Spokane resident, and was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Spokane Rugby Association.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Clarke; one daughter, Darlene Scarpelli; one son, David Clarke; and his mother, Barbara Clarke of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gonzaga University, College of Engineering.
