Chapter 11 Files Win, Inches Toward 1st

The ground underneath M&L Construction eroded slightly on Thursday.

Chris Wilson pitched a six-hitter as Chapter 11/Longhorn Barbecue (12-2) moved closer to first place in the North Division by handing M&L (13-2) a rare baseball loss - 8-3 at Shadle Park’s Al K. Jackson Field.

Garrett Wideman and Jeff Lafferty each went 2 for 2 with three runs batted in for Chapter 11/Longhorn, which stormed ahead with three-run first and third innings.

Wideman scored twice and Lafferty had two doubles.

Marcus Muzatko and John Barneson each were 2 for 3 for M&L. Barneson doubled and scored once.

Also at Jackson Field, Carson Keeble struck out seven and scattered three hits as Spokane Federal Credit Union (10-4), first place in the South Division, beat the East Valley Merchants 8-2.

Bryan Miller of SFCU was 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Keith Osso doubled for the Merchants (5-11).

Elsewhere, Nate Lynch went 3 for 3, including a solo home run in the fifth, as Spokane Athletic Supply (12-5) held off Key Bank 8-7 at Central Valley High.

Dave Frank pitched six innings for the win. Erick Eigenhuis, who was 3 for 4 with a double, pitched the seventh to earn a save.

Richard George, who was 3 for 4, and teammate Rob Messer scored three runs apiece for Key Bank (3-14). Key Bank trailed 7-3 in the fifth.

At Gonzaga, Andy Potter had a grand slam to support Paul Grief (1-0), who pitched a four-hitter and struck out six in Washington Trust Bank’s 10-2 win over Olympic Sports.

WTB is 10-7. Bradley Nollmeyer doubled for Olympic (7-6).
