Winners Chosen In First Equity, Diversity Awards
The Spokane Public Schools Affirmative Action Council recently presented its first Equity and Diversity Awards. The winners and their schools were:
Grades 7-12 Student Award: Alicia Perkins, North Central High School.
Student Group Award: Multicultural Student Union, Ferris High School, Jason Atkins, Jeremy Barnes, Timothy Benton, Donell Barlow, Robert Benton, Kristan Blackhart, Luzviminda Carpenter, Isaac Carter, Nicholas Despopoulos, Jermaine Dunbar, Tara Ann Frazer, Heidi Hansen, Caroline Ike, Jaquay Lawson, Jared Lawson, Antaya Mack, Albert Mitchell, Brandon Molett, Rashaleenia Moore, Laura Phillips, Marcus Richardson, Lucia Rife, Julia Scott, Latrice Scott, Lisa Simmons, Todd Smith, Sarah Tierney, Kevin Tillman, Spencer Toepfer, Duane Vick, James Wilkerson, Shalena Wilkerson, Stephanie Williams and Tiana Williams, with principal John Bentz and advisor James Fisher.

Inland Power & Light Co. has awarded eight high school graduates with $1,000 scholarships each for the 1995/96 school year:
Gregory Aune, Lacrosse, Wash.; Stephen Clouse and Corrine Krauss, both of Spokane; Annaka Gustafson and Janeil Stone, both of Deer Park; Jarrod Mohr, Oldtown, Idaho; Laura Morasch, Endicott, Wash.; and Melissa White, Priest River, Idaho.
Faye Kintschi, Spokane, has been named a winner of a national Reminisce Senior Server Award for “going the extra mile” in providing outstanding service to senior citizens. The Spokane Cardiology nurse was nominated by Isobel Benda.
Wendy McClure, University of Idaho associate professor of architecture, is the recipient of the Idaho Historic Preservation Council’s 1995 Distinguished Preservationist Award for superlative achievement in preserving Idaho’s heritage.
The council recognized McClure’s achievements since arriving in Idaho in 1987. McClure began the UI department of architecture’s course in historic preservation, serves on the Idaho Historic Sites Review Board and recently completed a second term on the Moscow Historic Preservation Commission.
She also was recognized for her recently completed seed grant project, a video entitled “The Progressive Era School: Adaptations for 21st Century Education.” During preservation week, McClure also received the Orchid Award for a teaching video from the Moscow and Latah County Historic Preservation commissions.
