French Cyclist Wins
Frenchman Laurent Jalabert supplied his own fireworks on Bastille Day by winning the 12th stage of the Tour de France, while Miguel Indurain remained the overall leader.
Jalabert, who moved up to third overall, took off with almost 125 miles left in the 138-mile leg from St. Etienne to Mende, a relatively flat stage.
He was part of a group that built up an advantage of more than 10 minutes on the field, including Indurain, who is on his way to a fifth consecutive title.
American Lance Armstrong was 39th.
