Local Ewu Students Recipents Of Award
The following Inland Northwest Eastern Washington University June graduates are recipients of the Mary Shields Wilson Award. The award is given for outstanding academic achievement and accomplishment in leadership activities or in service to the university or community.
Andra Bitner, Dayton, Wash.; D. Jeanne Burke, Greenacres, Jennifer Hamsher, Edwall, Wash.; Shelley Higman, Eric Johnson, Bill LaRue, Nykolee McGill, Linda Nelson, Helen Quinton-Jessel, Jonathan Westbrook, Karin Westeren, Loyd Willaford and Kristopher Workman, all of Spokane.
Andrea Theisen King, Mead; Ginger Meyers-Davidson and Barbara Prentice, both of Cheney; and Lori Pegg, Kennewick.
University Honors were given to the following EWU undergraduates who participated in the University Honors Program and completed an Honors Senior Seminar:
Katrina Bitner, Kennewick; Bonnie Day, Chattaroy; Angel Edmundson Holmberg and Ryan Maynard, both of Dayton; and Jake Leonard, Spokane.
The following companies and individuals were recognized for their outstanding efforts in promoting and participating in a recent Oil Smart Campaign.
Companies were:
Airway Heights Corrections Center, Bayer Corporation, Cowles Publishing, Eastern Washington University, Johnson-Matthey, Pine Lodge Pre-Release, Department of Corrections, Rockwood Clinic, Spokane County Air Pollution Control, Sterling Savings, Washington Department of Social and Health Services and Washington Water Power.
American Linen, Camp Automotive, Inc., Cox Cable, The Guardian Life Insurance Company, Metropolitan Mortgage & Securities, Pitney Bowes, Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane Transit Authority, Washington Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Transportation and Whitworth College.
Individuals were: Eileen Hyatt and Julian Powers.
The Healthiest Recipe Award for having the highest employee participation rate was presented to the Washington Department of Ecology’s Eastern Regional Office. They had 100 percent.
STA provided more than 140,000 free rides to the community during “Free Fare Wednesdays” to support the month-long campaign. Cox Cable assisted with promotions with the production and broadcast of two public service announcements.
EWU won the Gold Medal for the best overall effort.
Melissa Langston, 17, recently participated in the 1995 Washington National TeenAger Scholarship program held in Everett. She is the daughter of Diana Langston, Mead.
Ashley Rae Jones, 4, has been named 1995-96 Little Miss Washington. She is the former 1994-95 Washington State Gingerbread Queen and will compete in nationals in Dallas, Texas, in August. She is a resident of Newman Lake.
The following Washington state teachers earned the Washington State University Masters of Arts in Chemistry degree for 1995: Elizabeth Frank, Harrington (Wash.) High School; Keith Duncan, Kamiakin High School, and Brian Soiseth, River View High School, both in Kennewick; Linda Garnett, Oroville (Wash.) High School; Larry Pettyjohn, Columbia High School, Pasco; Diane Prince, Pomeroy (Wash.) High School; Steven Colvin, Christian Heritage, Reardan, Wash.; Sandy Hazelbaker, Northwest Christian, Spokane; and Michael Ottis, Wilson Creek School, Wilson Creek, Wash.
