Seles To Share Top Billing
Monica Seles, who has not played on the tennis tour since being stabbed more than two years ago, is expected to be given a co-No. 1 ranking with Steffi Graf, the New York Times reported.
The newspaper said the announcement by the WTA Tour likely will be made by Thursday and stipulate that Seles will share the ranking for at least six events.
Seles is to play an exhibition with Martina Navratilova on July 29 in Atlantic City, N.J., and has entered next month’s U.S. Open.
Arthur Ashe will be honored in a manner usually accorded Richmond’s white Confederate icons - with a bronze statue on a grand, tree-lined boulevard.
In a unanimous decision Monday, the Richmond, Va., City Council voted to put a 24-foot monument to the late black tennis star among those of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis and J.E.B. Stuart.
