When Love Is In The Air, Its Allure Can’t Be Denied

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Loose talk

Cindy Crawford, 29, on love: “You have to love in the verb sense of the word…. I think what growing up has meant to me in the last five years is not shrugging off my needs and saying, ‘Well, I can live without it, even if it’s a little thing.”’

Love makes the world go round. Or something like that. That is what the crooners say. And according to People magazine, married love is the best ever.

-“I’m very much in love,” said model Anna Nicole Smith, 27, on her marriage to 90-year-old Texas oil baron J. Howard Marshall II. “I could have married him four years ago if I’d just wanted to get rich.”

Jerry Lee Lewis, in contrast, said the following about his 1957 marriage to his 13-year-old cousin Mary Gale Brown. “It’s very stupid for a person to flush $50 billion down the commode, which is probably what I did.”

And then ex-Rolling Stone bassist Bill Wyman was filled with hope on the occasion of his 1989 marriage to 18-year-old model Mandy Smith. “I hope this works out. I tore up my address book.”

My, aren’t we acting like Mr. Happy today?

Robin Williams turns 43 today.

Destiny is what gave this rebel a cause!

Today’s literary note comes courtesy of New York Magazine: It seems Jason Gould, son of Barbra Streisand and Elliott Gould, is “at work on a biography of his idol, the late Sal Mineo.”

Is this a good obit? ‘A grand greenness mourned by many’

And, now, some sad news: Godzilla is nearing the end. After producing the 21st film in the Godzilla series, “Godzilla Vs. Destroyer,” Japanese producer Shogo Tomiyama is ready to put the big creature at rest. “We wanted to finish with Godzilla while he is still a star,” he said.

Mary Poppins would be an easier hire

Comedian Harry Shearer, star of stage and screen, has this to say about his career plans: “Returning to ‘Saturday Night Live’?” he responded to a questioner on America Online. “Frankly, that was the sentence I was going to suggest for O.J.”

Pat Riley dribbled past just a second ago

People used to go to movie theaters to see the Hollywood stars. But, according to rock dinosaur Alice Cooper, the happening place in L.A. these days is a restaurant. “This is really the only Hollywood thing left, the only thing the stars go to,” said Cooper, who just happens to be a partner in the Hawaii Planet Hollywood. “It used to be premieres, but nobody ever goes to premieres anymore.”

Forever: That’s how long we’ll remember this day

And, finally, let this be known as the day in which we finally agreed with something uttered by conservative Pat Buchanan, the occasional talk-show host who has presidential aspirations. “Much of TV entertainment is an open septic tank,” Buchanan told TV Guide.
