Passenger Traffic At Airport Takes Off

From Staff And Wire Reports

Driven by competition among low-fare carriers, double digit growth in passenger activity continued during June at Spokane International Airport.

The total number of people boarding aircraft during the month increased by 13 percent over June of 1994. The number of passengers arriving at Spokane International was up 15 percent over June of last year.

This monthly trend of double-digit increases at the airport has continued for almost three years.

“The low-cost carriers continue to provide the stimulus for our historical levels of growth,” said John G. Morrison, executive director of Spokane Airports.

Total cargo, freight and mail was up 3 percent during June. Total aircraft operations were down 7.5 percent, which airport officials attributed to the closure of the airport’s main runway for resurfacing.

At Felts Field, total aircraft operations were down 9 percent, but freight activity was up 62 percent over June of 1994.
