Us West Earnings Tumble 15 Percent

US West Inc. on Friday reported second-quarter earnings fell 15 percent to $318 million.

Earnings came to 67 cents per share in the quarter, down from $375 million, or 83 cents per share, in the same period a year ago. Revenue rose to $2.89 billion from $2.71 billion.

US West Communications Group reported the number of its telephone access lines increased by 509,000, or about 4 percent, during the second quarter, compared to a year ago. The group serves more than 25 million customers.
