Floridians Flee Hurricane Allison

Residents in a flood-prone area of the Florida Panhandle fled their homes Sunday night as Hurricane Allison moved toward the state with torrential rain and winds of at least 75 mph.

The first hurricane of the 1995 season was expected to move ashore from the Gulf of Mexico sometime between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. today, forecasters said.

About 5,000 people were evacuated from coastal regions.
