Reeve Sitting Up In Hospital Bed
Christopher Reeve got a new view of his hospital room Tuesday as doctors elevated his bed to a sitting position and said he may be placed in a chair as early as Tuesday night.
Doctors had expected to sit Reeve up a few degrees at a time after surgery Monday, but he was at an 80-degree angle less than 24 hours later.
The fusion surgery was done to strengthen two broken vertebrae and prevent further damage to Reeve’s spinal cord after a riding accident May 27 left him paralyzed from the neck down. Reeve remained in serious but stable condition.
