Vols Player Chosen Again

Tennessee pitcher-first baseman Todd Helton was selected the winner of the Dick Howser Award by American Baseball Coaches Association.

Helton earlier was chosen player of the year by Baseball America. He shared a similar honor with Cal State Fullerton outfielder-pitcher Mark Kotsay as selected by Collegiate Baseball.

Helton and Kotsay brought their teams to the College World Series. Kotsay was selected to the coaches’ All-American outfield with Nebraska’s Darin Erstad, the No. 1 pick in the baseball draft; Rice’s Jose Cruz Jr., the top draft selection of the Seattle Mariners; and New Mexico’s Mark Wulfert.
