Former Spokane Resident Mrs. U.S. Representative
Linda Watts, formerly of Spokane, will represent Washington state in this summer’s national competition for the title of Mrs. United States 1995.
Watts is a police officer/D.A.R.E officer with the Yakima Police Department. She is a graduate of Shadle Park High School, Spokane Community College and Washington State University.
Freda Eakins-McKeen was elected director of Alpha Iota International Sorority at its recent district meeting in Seattle. She was an adviser for the sorority for 23 years until her retirement in 1984 from Kinman Business University.
Kelly LaGrutta, executive secretary to the superintendent of Educational Service District 101, has been named Educational Office Professional of the Year by the National Association of Educational Office Professionals. She will receive the award July 21 in Austin, Texas. LaGrutta has been a staff member since 1984.
Alan Buehler, Spokane, was presented with an Exemplary Act Award during the Department of the Interior’s annual convention on environmental safety in Colorado Springs, Colo. Buehler received the award for rushing to the aid of a trapped truck-accident victim last fall while doing field work. He is employed by the Bureau of Mines.
Greg Wold and Pat Brinson, owners of the Lilac City Dance Club, took a group of competition ballroom dancers to represent Spokane at the recent 19th annual Galaxy Ball in Seattle.
Algene Pfeffer and Wold, her partner, received two first places in the full Gold American Style Waltz and Foxtrot. Wold and his partner, Louise Winn, also received a first place in the Bronze American Style Waltz. Wold, who has been teaching in Spokane for 20 years, choreographed the Argentine Tango segment in the second TV episode of “Amazing Grace.”
Laralynn Nelson, will teach English in the Peace Corps in Moldova (Central Europe). She is a recent honors graduate of Washington State University with a major in child psychology.
Travis Ruhl, a student at Ferris High School, recently placed third in the national competition of the 1995 DECA Career Development Conference in St. Louis, Mo. He competed in finance and credit services.
Michele McCarthy, granddaughter of Norm and Janet Anderson, Spokane, has been named a U.S. National Award winner in science. A student of Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, Wash., she was also a winner in band division.
