Read A Book, Enter Contest And Give Mom A Surprise

To encourage summertime reading, a literacy organization called Reading Is Fundamental is sponsoring a “Read a Book For Mom Sweepstakes” for children ages 7-18.

To enter, read any book and write a 200-word description or summary of it. Include the name and author of the book, your name, address, phone number and your mom’s name.

One winner will receive two roundtrip tickets to Orlando to see Shaquille O’Neal play his first game of the next NBA season, an Orlando Magic team sweatshirt, T-shirt, CD and basketball. The winning mother will receive flowers monthly for one year.

Mail entries to “Read a Book For Mom,” 1600 Stewart Ave., Westbury, NY 11590, by Sept. 1.

Dads can win a family trip in the Evenflo “Daddy and Me” photo contest.

To enter, send in a photo of dad and his 4-year-old or younger son(s) and/or daughter(s). (No moms in the photo, but pets are fine). On the back of the photo, print clearly dad’s name, address and phone number and identify the names and ages of all children in the photo.

Winners will be determined based on photo composition, creativity, originality and consistency with the theme.

Grand prize is a trip for four to the Bahamas including a donation to the children’s charity of your choice. Second place receives $250; third place receives $100. All winners receive a Fuji Discovery camera.

KUDOS Working Mother of the Year Award is designed to recognize and honor all mothers as working mothers.

If you are a mother, describe in 500 words or less how you meet the demands of your busy life while maintaining a quality of life that makes it worthwhile.

A panel of judges will select the winning essay based on the uniqueness and practicality of ideas presented.

The first-prize winner receives $35,000. Three second-place winners receive a four-day/three-night stay at the Deerfield Manor Spa; 10 thirdplace winners receive diamond stud earrings.

To celebrate the 35th birthday of bubble bath’s favorite suds, “The Mr. Bubble Birthday Splash Contest” invites youngsters ages 2-8 to send in an original drawing - using crayons, markers or paints - depicting how they have fun in the bathtub with Mr. Bubble.

Winners will be judged on creativity and overall artistic impression.

The first-prize winner will receive an all-expense paid birthday party for 20 guests including cake, T-shirts, toys, puppets and bubble bath. An additional 150 winners will receive Mr. Bubble bubble bath and accessories.
