Youth College Classes Are Great Summer Activity

Spokane Falls Community College is offering Youth College classes for children ages 9-13. The summer sessions give youngsters something fun and educational to do, and gives many recent college graduates a crack at gaining needed experience.

“We were trying to come up with a program that would enhance the community,” says Marianne Krall, supervisor of the program. “This does that, and we hire many recent college graduates. They get a first job that looks good on a resume, and the kids have fun.”

There’s no shortage of classes, with 75 in all. Subjects cover everything from archaeology in “Archaeology: Young Indiana Jones” to zoology in “Nature Discovery.”

There’s even a stealth way to turn your tyke into a numbers cruncher.

“We call our math class ‘Math Magic,’ so parents can get their kids interested in it,” Krall says.

Classes for the first session are filling up, so register soon.

The first session of two-week classes runs June 26-July 7. The second session runs July 10-21. Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. weekdays. Prices range from $21 to $75, depending on the cost of materials. For more information or to register, call 533-3522.
