Counties Eligible For Disaster Relief

From Staff And Wire Reports

Eighteen Eastern Washington counties have been declared eligible for federal natural disaster relief from drought and low temperatures that have occurred since Sept. 1, 1993.

The Rural Economic and Community Development agency said family farms in Asotin, Benton, Ferry, Columbia, Klickitat, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Walla Walla and Whitman counties are eligible to apply for low-interest, disaster loans.

The same loans also are available to farms in Adams, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Lincoln Okanogan, Skamania, Spokane and Yakima counties.

To qualify, applicants must be unable to obtain credit elsewhere. Loans carry 4.5 percent interest on terms up to 40 years.

For information and deadlines to apply, contact the Spokane County office of RECD at 353-2317.
