Gold Cup Offers Bonus

Compiled From Wire Services

The Hollywood Gold Cup on July 2 will offer a purse of $1 million if handicap standout Cigar and 1994 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Concern are participants.

The 1 1/4-mile race for 3-year-olds and up is already the richest race of Hollywood Park’s spring-summer meeting with a purse of $750,000.

“It is the goal of the TOC to make California horse racing the best in the world,” said Ed Friendly, president of the Thoroughbred Owners of California. “The confrontation between these two great horses would generate tremendous exposure for the game and spark the interest of fans nationwide.”
